DOG SHOWING 101

Instructor:  Ruthann McCaulley

Wednesdays, 6:15 to 7:15 p.m.

    Sept. 8 to Oct. 13, 2010

AGILITY (classes limited to 6 dogs)

Classes are outdoors in a covered dirt arena.  Please dress appropriately for the weather.

Agility is a sport where you teach your dogs to run over objects, weave through poles, go through tunnels, etc.  In addition to being fun it also teaches your dog to focus on you and do what you ask.

BEGINNERS Dogs must already know the cues “come, sit, down, stay.”  Dogs will learn confidence as you learn basic handling skills and how to teach your dog to perform obstacles.  All breeds and all ages above 6 months are welcome.

Fridays, 6:15 to 7:15 p.m., 5 wks, $65

   Oct. 1 to Oct. 29, 2010

ADVANCED BEGINNERS - For dogs that can perform most of the obstacles but still need help with consistency in performing weavepoles, teeter, contacts, etc.  Students will learn additional handling skills such as front crosses, rear crosses, etc.

Saturdays, 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.

   Oct. 2 to Oct. 30, 2010, 5 wks, $65

INTERMEDIATEFor dogs that are comfortable on the equipment and handlers who are ready to do longer sequences.  Students will learn to determine the most efficient path for their dog, solid contacts, start-line stays, and solid weavepoles.

Saturdays, 9:15 a.m. to 10:15:00 a.m.

Oct. 2 to Oct. 30, 2010, 5 wks, $65

ADVANCED For handlers and dogs competing or ready to compete.  You will learn more complex handler moves to better communicate with your dog.  You will be refining your skills for better accuracy and determining when to use the various styles of handling.

Mondays, 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

    Aug. 2  - Sept. 13 (no classes 8-16 or 9-6)

   Sept. 27 – Oct. 25, 2010, 5 wks, $65

DOCK DIVING (Class limited to 6 dogs)

Students should bring small treats, cloth leash, water and water bowl, and a floatable toy.  Wear clothing that you won’t mind getting wet.

Does your dog love to jump, or love swimming?  Dock diving is a relatively new sport where dogs jump off a dock into a pool.  Categories of dock diving are a) distance covered in air; b) height jumped, and c) fastest retrieving an object.

DOCK DIVING BEGINNERS Dogs will get accustomed to jumping into the water, retrieving a toy, swimming, and exiting the pool.  Students will learn how to control their toss for the best results.

Saturdays, 10:45 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.

  July 10 to August 21, 2010, 5 wks, $70 (no class 8-14)
